Suffolk Police make burglary arrests in Deer Park

Suffolk County Police have arrested three adults and a juvenile in connection with burglaries occurring in the Deer Park area.

First Precinct Police Officer Joseph Zaverdas responded to a call to 911 about suspicious men in the area of Headline Road in Deer Park about 12:15 p.m. on Thursday, December 7, while he and Officer William Krolikiewicz of the Suffolk Police K-9 unit were interviewing a man found in the area, Officer Zaverdas noticed a car headed toward them. Officer Zaverdas had observed the car earlier with only a female driver. It now contained the woman and two male passengers. The officers stopped the car and found that the two men matched the description of the two suspicious males that they were looking for. In the car, they discovered ski masks and gloves.

While the subjects were detained, officers found a broken window in a house on Headline Road. Police found items taken from the house in the possession of the suspicious men. All four people were arrested. They are: Melvin Estevez, 841 Deer Park Ave., Deer Park; Mark Buttafuoco, 27 Chelsea Ave., West Babylon and Diona Lotito, of 6 St. Clair St., Deer Park, all 18 years old. Also arrested was a 15-year-old male youth from North Babylon.

Investigation by the First Squad determined that Lotito, Buttafuoco and the juvenile were responsible for another residential burglary in Deer Park, this one occurring on December 5. Items stolen during that burglary have also been recovered. While at the precinct, detectives recognized Buttofuoco as a person wanted for a robbery which had occurred on November 16 in North Babylon. In that case, a man was punched and relieved of his gold chain.

Buttafuoco was charged with one count of Robbery 2nd Degree and two counts of Burglary 2nd Degree. Lotito was charged with two counts of Burglary 2nd Degree, and Estevez faces one count of Burglary 2nd Degree. All were arraigned at First District Court, Central Islip. The juvenile is scheduled to appear in Family Court later this month.
