West Islip School holds Night of a Thousand Strings
A popular event in West Islip School District is known as the Night of a Thousand Strings, featuring music students playing violins, violas, cellos and bass instruments. All nine school buildings are represented, which means a standing-room-only audience enjoying the sounds of the All District Fourth Grade Orchestra, Fifth Grade Orchestra, Combined Beach/ Udall Sixth Grade Orchestra, Combined Beach/Udall Seventh and Eighth Grade Orchestra and the High School’s Combined Ninth Grade and Senior Orchestra. The High School Advanced Chamber Orchestra performed prior to the start of the program in the lobby of the Performing Arts Center. The Music Director, grades K through 12, is Bernie Jones.
