Thomas Kelly: retired Grumman engineer from Bay Shore

Retired Grumman aircraft mechanic and longtime Bay Shore resident Thomas J. Kelly died on November 8, 2006. He was 91 years old and had lived on Carll Avenue for 53 years.

Mr. Kelly was a decorated veteran who served in U.S. Army based in the Philippines during World War II. For 32 years he worked on planes at Grumman in Bethpage. His proudest achievement, according to his family, was his work on the lunar excursion model (LEM).

He dedicated much time to the Boy Scouts of America in Bay Shore and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Kings Park and Brentwood. Mr. Kelly leaves behind his children: Thomas

of Bay Shore, Sheila Adamse and her husband Frank of Livingston Manor, New York, Rosemary of Connecticut and James of Patchogue; his grandchildren: Erinn and Casey; as well as other loved ones and friends. He was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Bernadette (Looram).

He reposed at the Frederick J. Chapey & Sons West Islip Funeral Home. A Celebration of the Liturgy of Christian Burial was held at St. Patrick’s R.C. Church in Bay Shore on November 10, 2006 followed by interment in Calverton National Cemetery.
