Brentwood student Windmill’s on display
Michael Menjivar, a third grader at Southwest School in Brentwood is one of more than 300 Long Island students whose work will be on display through January 28 in the Long Island Museum’s 10th annual Colors of Long Island: Student Expressions exhibition, sponsored by Bank of America.
Teachers from across Long Island were invited to submit up to three pieces of student artwork for this year’s exhibition. The theme, “The Colors of Long Island,” allows for many creative interpretations. While some schools have referred to Long Island’s landscapes, others have interpreted the theme differently by focusing on the cultural diversity that makes Long Island so colorful. The varying interpretations of this theme are portrayed through many different media, including watercolor, clay sculptures, quilts, drawings, oil pastels, photographs and computer graphics. The museum will welcome all Suffolk County students and teachers who participated in the exhibit to an artist reception on Sunday January 21, 2 to 4 p.m. Each participating student and teacher is admitted for free with one guest. Additional guests will be charged the regular museum admission price: $7 for adults, $6 for children and $3 for students. Children under six and museum members are admitted for free and Bank of America customers will receive $1 off the regular admission price by showing their ATM cards.
Located at 1200 Route 25A in Stony Brook, the Long Island Museum is open Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. For additional information and directions call 631-751-0066 or visit the museum web site at www.longislandmuseum.org.
