Alan Welch: 41, Bay Shore resident & NYPD Officer

Alan C. Welch, Jr., a New York City Police Officer who spent his entire life in Bay Shore, died on November 20, 2006 after a long illness. The devoted father and family man was 41-years old.

Born March 12, 1965 to Sandra and Alan Sr., he later excelled in school sports, especially football, and was a true animal lover.

Mr. Welch was a proud and dedicated New York City Police Officer who worked at the 103rd and 106th precincts in Queens for 17 years. His last assignment was mentoring High School youth at the 106.

After being diagnosed with an illness, he was given a liver transplant on April 22, 2005 and was again able to enjoy spending time with his beloved children, taking them bowling, fishing, treasure hunting and racing go-carts.

He leaves behind his children: Amanda Michelle and Michael Alan; his parents: Alan C. Sr. and Sandra; his siblings: Donna Lee Vaglica and her husband Joseph, Darla Joy and Glen and his wife Lee; his grandmother, Thelma Gerold; his nieces and nephews, Tiffany Joy, Benjamin and Jessica who called him “Unkie Al”; as well as other loved ones and friends.

Mr. Welch reposed at the Frederick J. Chapey & Sons West Islip Funeral Home on November 22 and 24, 2006 with religious service held at the home on November 24. A Funeral Service was held on November 25, 2006 followed by interment at Pinelawn Memorial Park, Pinelawn.

Due to his gratitude towards his organ donor, Mr. Welch donated his heart after his passing, which his family called the “gift of life he is now passing on to someone else.”
