W.I. Robotics Booster Club gets assistance from non-profit organization

The West Islip Robotics Booster Club, now a 501(c)(3) organization, has held an annual meeting and elections. The Club, founded in 2004, will have Chris Foley as president, Glenn Luchen as secretary, and Jim Stephenson as treasurer. This non-profit organization is dedicated to promoting students’ interest in science and technology programs in West Islip schools.

The Club is providing engineering mentors to the team, as well as funds raised through sponsorships and special events outside the district. Already, members have been providing funds, material and equipment that have enabled the high school team to compete in robotics competitions and provided the opportunity for West Islip’s two middle schools to compete in FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Lego League Competitions. Additionally, club members assist the robotechs with their monthly community service project; the clean-up of Higbie Lane (as part of the Town’s Adopt-a-Highway Program).

The Club will also award scholarships to students continuing their education in science and/or technology fields.

West Islip Robotics Booster Club membership forms and sponsor information packages are available on the team’s website: http:// www.westisliprobotics.com. For additional information, interested persons may call 631-983-3960 or visit INFO@westisliprobotics.com.

SBPLI (School Business Partnerships of Long Island) will be hosting a Lego Competition at Longwood High School on January 21, 2007. The next FIRST Robotics Competition will be held at Hofstra University from March 29-31, 2007.
