West Babylon promotes music teacher to department chair

In his 20th year with the district, Joe Barone was recently promoted to music department chairperson at the West Babylon High School. When he began with the district, there had been only 35 students in one choir; now there are three choirs with approximately 200 students, at the high school level alone. Barone has made tremendous strides for the music department in West Babylon, not only with the chorus, but in the annual elaborate musical productions that the drama club produces.

Barone has a bachelor of science from SUNY Potsdam Crane School of Music, voice and theater and his masters in continuing education from SUNY Stony Brook. He is a member of the National Association for Music Education, the New York State Council of Administrators of Music Education, and the Suffolk County Music Educators Association. He was also named All County ConStudents ductor in 2005.
