Babylon Theatrical Troupe praised for community service

Thespian Troupe 6117 at Babylon Junior-Senior High School is being praised by the International Thespian Society for its participation in the So Kids Can Eat Food Drive. Executive Director Michael Peitz of TOTS-Eat wrote in a letter addressed to School Librarian Jane Herbst, “You have unselfishly reached out to neighbors who need a hand. Everyone in Troupe 6117 has a right to be proud and stand tall.” Nationwide, 254 Thespian Troupes collected donations of food, totaling more than 225,000 pounds. Three years ago, Herbst’s Troupe 6117 was the only New York troupe participating; now three others have joined them. Peitz adds, “This is a real testament to the compassion and character of the theatre community, demonstrating the positive impact thespians can have outside the value of their theatre work.” This year’s goal for Thespian Troupe 6117 is to collect a ton of food in support of local soup kitchens.
