Kay Sullo of N.Babylon, avid volunteer

North Babylon resident Kathleen “Kay” Margaret Sullo so dedicated her life to caring for those in her community that more than 600 people showed up at her funeral, according to her daughter, Kathleen.

“She was the most loving, giving and caring person I ever knew. So many people loved her,” said her Kathleen.

Mrs. Sullo died November 3, 2006 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 63-years old and had touched many lives with her involvement in Suffolk County Girl Scouts, as a sports coach and even taking needy people into her home.

She was also the first woman coach for the first girl’s Patriot soccer team in North Babylon, according to Kathleen who said her mom coached for many years.

For 40 years she lived in North Babylon and had worked at Chase Manhattan Bank in Hicksville for more than 20 years. About ten years ago she was awarded Woman of the Month by Newsday for helping others.

Mrs. Sullo leaves behind her husband of 41 years, Roy; her children: Kathleen Lutz and her husband Kurt of Babylon Village, Roy Jr. and his wife Frances of Kings Park and Christine Centrone and her husband Dominick of North Babylon; her grandchildren: Amanda, Samantha Allison, Andrew, April, Alexa and Natalia; her siblings: Ellen and Arnold Woodbury, Ann and Robert Sullivan and Christine and Robert Thibeault; many nieces and nephews; as well as other loved ones and many friends.

Mrs. Sullo reposed the Frederick J. Chapey Funeral Home, West Islip, on November 5 and 6, 2006. A Celebration of the Liturgy of Christian Burial was held November 7, 2006 at St. Joseph’s R.C. Church in Babylon. Interment followed in Holy Rood Cemetery, Westbury.
