North Babylon School District staff members participate in Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk
Staff members in the North Babylon School District participated in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk held at Jones Beach. This fundraiser helps fight breast cancer and provides hope to people facing the disease. It also supports the American Cancer Society’s life saving research, prevention, early detection and support programs for thousands of patients and their families.
One team walked in memory of Carissa DellUniversita-Beanland. She graduated from North Babylon High School and died of breast cancer
just a few months after being diagnosed at the young age of 28. Her close friend and North Babylon social studies teacher Meghan Kelly helped organize the team which was made up of Kelly’s colleagues and Carissa’s friends and family. They raised more than $6,000 dollars for the American Cancer Society. The “We Miss Carissa” team wanted to keep Carissa’s memory alive, while raising awareness about the disease, in hopes of preventing this tragedy from happening to others.
