Eight students from West Gates Avenue Elementary School in Lindenhurst recently made a trip to their local beauty salons; not to just get a "back to school" trim, but to help children afflicted with cancer and other long term illnesses. Each girl had 10- 12 inches of hair cut off and donated to either Locks of Love or Wigs for Kids, two charities that make wigs out of the hair for ill children.
Student Jordan Grenick stated, "My hair was very long and I needed to get it cut anyway. Instead of just throwing it away, I thought it would be better to donate it." Fellow student Danielle D'Angelo added, "I didn't need all that hair. I thought someone else needed it more than me." When asked what it felt like to have all her hair cut off, student Samantha Dreger said nothing more than, "I just had a smile from ear to ear because I knew I was helping somebody."
The eight students who participated were: Alexandra Bittner, Danielle D'Angelo, Samantha Dreger, Jordan Greenich, Cassandria McCardle, Shweta Pawa, Erin Woodworth, and Kylie Zocalli. Each of the girls all exclaimed they would like to donate more hair in the future.
