At the November 1 Board of Education meeting, representatives from Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) presented the Lindenhurst School District with a rebate check in the amount of $116,715. The District received the rebate money due to the energy program it implemented last year to replace various lighting fixtures and boilers at several schools.

Robert Cipriani of LIPA stated, "This check is the largest lump sum rebate ever given to a school district by LIPA." The rebate money will be used to help offset electrical costs for the 2006-2007 school year.
