Armed Services News Army Staff Sgt. Matthew C. Nelson, whose wife Jeanna is the daughter of John L. and Kathy C. Nardi of Seigel Blvd., Bablyon, N.Y. is a member of the U.S. Army Field Band, the official Musical Ambassadors of the Army headquartered at Fort George G. Meade, Md. The soldier will tour the U.S. during October and November to participate in the Field Band's 2006 Fall Concert performances. The Army Field Band conducts three annual national tours and occasionally overseas. The organizational component members on tour include the Concert Band, Soldiers' Chorus, Jazz Ambassadors, and Volunteers. The fall tour will include performances at selected communities in Pennsylvania, New York, Maryland, Vermont, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Delaware, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. Their mission on behalf of the Army is to say thanks to the American people for their past support, while seeking continued public support for Army missions. Nelson is a tuba player with four years of military service. He is the son of Galen R. Nelson of West Scarborough Drive, New Berlin, Wis., and Linda L. Catalano of Thackeray Trail, Oconomowoc, Wis.
Army Pvt. Denvard Charles has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission and received instruction in drill and ceremonies, rifle marksmanship, weapons, map reading, tactics, armed and unarmed combat, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, Army history, core values and traditions, and special training in human relations.
Charles is the son of Danielle Desravines of North Babylon.
