Post Office stamps out service

Dear Editor

I am writing to protest the move, on the part of the Lindenhurst Post Office to cut hours from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. as an opening time. First, as a busy businessman in the community, I, like many others, fit going to the Post Office into our already busy schedules. To go before office hours begin and crowds make waiting times longer, saves time, and thus, money for the customer. Opening later does not serve the the customers' needs.

Often the Postal Service belly aches about losing capital, but then, in its infinite wisdom, decides to depersonalize services, and cut hours to further irritate customers rather than serve their needs. Soon, the Post Office will have alienated so many customers, that we'll all find alternative means to dealing with the poor customer service. The Internet, Fed Ex, courier, all are alternative means to getting that package where it needs to go. To survive, the Post Office needs to meet the needs of customers and stop cutting hours and having insufficient staff to serve customers.

I'm outraged at this newest self-serving policy which does nothing for customers except add to an already understaffed and overcrowded line later in the morning. It's an outrage. What happened to old fashioned customer service and meeting the needs of the customer? The Postal Service doesn't care what customers need.

Steven Weinkselbaum, Lindenhurst
