Editorial Several incidents over the past couple of weeks point to a disturbing trend in Babylon Village. Groups of youngsters are gathering and causing problems by acting irresponsibly, discourteously and like hoodlums. On Halloween night, several groups damaged private property as they used the event as an excuse to wander the streets and disregard the rights of others. In another incident, a woman was injured by a reckless teen who threw a skateboard at her, and there have been cases of damage to vehicles and the Village Gazebo that were likely the result of some youngsters doing the wrong thing at the wrong time. This kind of conduct is not only unacceptable in a community but also criminal and every person who has authority over some youngster-parents, teachers, guardians- should not miss the opportunity of reinstilling the lessons of decency, courtesy and respect that they were taught as children. We all understand that the teenaged years are difficult and very often these young people like to experiment with and challenge authority. But they should also understand that there are consequences from these behaviors, particularly when others are hurt in the process, that will have an impact on their futures.
As a community, we cannot accept these actions, and will and should take all steps necessary to not only prevent them but also hold those who violate the law fully accountable. Be warned.
