David Whelan: 62, Suffolk County bus driver

R. David Whelan, a 23-year West Islip resident and Suffolk County Transit driver, died November 1, 2006. He was 62 years old.

Born and raised in Bay Shore, he later moved to West Islip with his wife, Agnes. For 31 years, he was a bus driver for Suffolk County Transit and was a head usher at Faith Tabernacle in West Babylon.

Mr. Whelan leaves behind his wife of 23 years, Agnes; his step-children: Jeanne Bergamine and her husband Michael, William J. and his wife Rose Henninger, Donna Henninger and Lewis Henninger; his grandchildren: Valerie, Jamie, Michael, Jason, Beth, Christen, Melissa and Billy; his sister, Barbara Rodriguez; as well as other loved ones and friends.

Mr. Whelan reposed at the Frederick J. Chapey & Sons Funeral Home, West Islip on November 4 and 5, 2006. Religious and Funeral Services were held at the funeral home followed by interment in Pinelawn Memorial Park in Pinelawn on November 6, 2006.
