Philomena Greco, singer and mother of twelve
Born January 29, 1923, she lived in Lindenhurst for 30 years before moving to Prospect Street in Babylon, where she lived for for 21 years. "She was a wonderful mother who dedicated her life to us," said her youngest daughter, Sunday who said her mom was an avid walker and bingo player who used to sing in her dad's bands, the "Peaches Greco Trio" and "The Man with the Golden Horn." For approximately 20 years, she worked as a Merrow machine operator, or seamstress, out of her home. Mrs. Greco leaves behind her children: Camille Tucker from Staten Island, Angie Romano and her husband Ben of Rosyln Heights, Louis Verritto of Florida, Alfred Verritto and his wife Rosette of Copiague, Joseph Verritto of Wantagh, Freddy Natale of Inwood, Beatrice Chiofalo of Ridgewood, New York and Sunday Carey of West Islip; her grandchildren: Dominick, Bobby, Jimmy, Dawn, Vincent, Helen Marie, David, Michael, Marie Rose, Joseph, Jimmy, Adrienne, Dominique, Benny, Tiffany, Melissa, Danielle, Jason, Michael and Devon; her great grandchildren: Morgan, Andrew, Francis, Bobby, Robert, Carmella, Antoinette, Christina, Michael, Vinny, Helen, Arabella, Francesca and Giana; as well as many other loved ones and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Alfred and Dominica Calcagna as well as her son, Dominick.
Mrs. Greco reposed at Johnstons' Wellwood Funeral Home, Lindenhurst, on October 7 and 8, 2006. A Catholic Funeral Mass was said October 9, 2006 at Our lady of Grace followed by interment in National Cemetery at Calverton
