WI PTA to host Substance Abuse presentation

All adults in the West Islip community are invited, perhaps even urged, to attend a presentation titled "Children & Substance Abuse." Hosted by the Udall Road Middle School PTA, this program will be presented at the school at 900 Udall Road on Monday, November 20th at 8 p.m. "Due to the nature of the subject, we request that no children be in attendance," says PTA President Theresa Shaw. She adds that this powerful presentation will be given by the Daytop Parents Educating Parents group and will offer parent-sharing personal experiences in coping with adolescents who abuse alcohol and/or drugs, teenagers who share "tricks of the trade" in manipulating parents, and Daytop Village's clinical points of view.

The mission of Daytop is to assist parents in recognizing the early warning signs of substance abuse in children, such as denial, change of friends, dropping out of activities, failing grades, isolation from the family, change in sleep patterns, and coming home late.

For more information, please contact Ms. Shaw at 587-6610.
