Author/illustrator visits E.W. Bower Elementary

In early October, first and second grade students at Lindenhurst's E.W. Bower Elementary School stretched their imaginations, thanks to a special lesson by author/illustrator Angelo DeCesare. DeCesare shared his book Flip's Fantastic Journal with the students. The story told the tale of a young student named Flip who didn't like to write in his journal. Once he started to use his imagination, however, Flip wrote of fabulous tales including his pet dinosaur, Crunch, winning a zillion dollars, and even finding a cereal box filled to the brim with toys.

DeCesare then showed students how he drew the characters in his book. He had students take a shot at illustrating their favorite character from Flip's Fantastic Journal, using basic shapes such as squares, circles, and triangles. DeCesare told students, "There is no right or wrong way to draw - just have fun!"

Shown in the photo, author/illustrator Angelo DeCesare demonstrates for students how he drew the characters for his book, Flip's Fantastic Journal.
