Reader says turf field is solid investment

Dear Editor:

The installation of a multi-purpose turf field at Babylon High School's Coach Walter Williams field is a source of controversy in the Babylon Village community. I don't think it should be controversial for two important reasons. There is no longer any Suffolk County money associated with the proposal and exclusive control of BHS facilities remains with the Babylon School District.

The train I ride daily passes the BHS athletic field and the turf field installed at Van Bourgondien Park in West Babylon. Invariably, flocks of birds gather on the BHS athletic field. I've yet to see one bird on the turf field at the park.

Furthermore, improvements financed by the Athletic Facilities Bond will enhance property values in the community. I was sitting behind a young home shopping couple as my train pulled into Babylon one Friday evening. I was proud to overhear how taken they were with the look of the place (the lake, the street posts and the geraniums on the street lamps-Thank you Mr. Mayor and BBS!).
