Proposition 2 is more than just a turf field for Babylon

Dear Editor:

The proposition 2 (Babylon School District Athletic Facilities Referendum has nothing to do with Suffolk County . The athletic facilities bond (proposition #2) will give the school district of Babylon 100 percent control. Control, maintenance and security will be monitored and owned by the school district.

It is also important to realize that proposition 2 also includes an important renovation to the tennis courts, which have cracks. The tennis courts are not only used by the gym glass and our junior high and senior high tennis programs but by the entire Village of Babylon community.

Making this Village great and keeping the Village feeling is a strong tradition. The voting process about issues gives us as a community with the ability to achieve compromise. Not every individual in the community is going to be in 100% agreement on every issue but isn't it important to give everyone the chance to be heard?

Currently, the field conditions are such that the girls' field hockey programs cannot play on the field. With the new field they will have opportunities to use the field.

Currently, the field is not lined for soccer. With the new turf field, it will be permanently lined for soccer and they will have opportunities to use this field.

Proposition 2 does not include the installation of lights and the Babylon Village Turf Field Fund committee will continue to fundraise for the fields and for permanent lights.
