Babylon Town proposes budget for 2007 A $43.3 million Babylon Town general fund budget with an increase in spending over this year of 2.6 percent or $1.08 million is being proposed by the Town of Babylon and will be officially presented to the public at a hearing this week. The Town must vote on the measure by the end of the month. The proposed spending plan will maintain the current tax rate of $7.88 for the fifth consecutive year, said Babylon Town Supervisor Steve Bellone. The additional spending will be offset by revenue increases of approximately $980,000 for fees, licenses and permits, fines and foreitures as a result of increases at the local, state and county levels for many of these items, said a town spokesman. The line items for license and permits which include dog licenses, plumbing permits, coastal erosion permits, street light permits and stormwater fees went from $208,000 to $433,000 a 108.2 percent increase. In addition, the Town anticipates recovering approximately $500,000 from other state, county and federal agencies for which it provides space and or services for a total of $1.48 million more coming into town coffers next year. While the general tax rate will remain stable, the tax for garbage collection services will increase $47 a year.
No salary increases for Town board members are projected and the budget includes all increases in salaries as a result of contractual agreements.
