New York Islanders visit Babylon Memorial Grade School

Two New York Islander hockey players visited the Babylon Memorial Grade School on October 24 to reinforce the importance of reading well, in celebration of Literacy Day. Thanks to physical education teacher Craig Washington, #55 Jason Baker and #24 Radik Martinek came to Babylon to address the student body and read the book, "It's Okay to be Different."

Washington and his young son, Andrew, played host as the children clapped and held up handmade banners that stated messages such as The ice here is great. Welcome to Babylon! and The Islanders Rock.

The Grade School rocked that morning as the children sang out, "We Will, We Will Rock You" and performed numerous "waves" from the gym bleachers.

The physical education teacher has taken the students and their parents on group trips to Islanders' games as part of Family Night, and in the process has made friends with team members.
