Lindenhurst High School senior Danielle Piskorz was named a semifinalist in the 52nd annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Piskorz will now have an opportunity to continue in the competition for one of 8,200 Merit Scholarship awards that will be offered next spring, totaling approximately $33 million.
According to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, more than 1.4 million juniors entered the 2007 National Merit Program by taking the 2005 Preliminary SAT/ National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). This served as an initial screen of program entrants. Out of all students who took the test, less then one percent were named semifinalists.
Lindenhurst High School guidance counselor Shannon Trude states, "I'm not surprised Danielle was named a semifinalist. She is a true go-getter who seeks out every opportunity there is to further her education. Her overall academic performance is just outstanding and I commend her on receiving this high honor."
