Legislator asks community to help support our troops

Suffolk County Legislator Steve Stern (D-Huntington) 16th LD, Chairman of the Veterans and Seniors Committee, in conjunction with the Jacob's Light Foundation asks that the public contribute "AA" batteries for the troops in Iraq. The foundation's mission is to send necessities and comforts from home to our military overseas. The organization has a particular focus on military members without family support of their own.

Jacob Samuel Fletcher was killed by a roadside bomb in November 2003 in Iraq. He was his mother's only child. Since then his mother Dorine has devoted herself to making life a little better for our military in Iraq.

"I am asking our community to help collect "AA" batteries, which are in very short supply, for our troops to enjoy some of the comforts of home. This effort will also send an important message to our troops-that we appreciate their bravery and service and that they remain in our thoughts and prayers," Legislator Stern said.

Please drop off "AA" batteries to Legislator Stern's District Office at 1842 E. Jericho Tpke., Suite P, Huntington or call 631-854-5100.
