Police make drug arrest of subject in Babylon Village
by Tiffany Elliott

A flurry of police activity, including the use of a police helicopter and K-9 units, caught the public's attention in Babylon Village Tuesday, October 17. It ended in the arrest of a subject who was charged with drug possession and sale. Police and witnesses gave this account.

In the early afternoon of October 17, police began chasing a subject along Deer Park Avenue and were in the process of placing him under arrest when he fled down the street and ducked into Lo-Man's Outdoor Store at 140 Deer Park Ave., Babylon.

"A little before noon I was in my office when the police chased a man into the store and he hid under our conveyor belt in the back room," said Rich Friedman, owner of Lo-Man's. Freidman said what started with about 6 officers chasing the fugitive just north of his store turned into about 20, complete with a canine officer, before the subject was caught. Another eyewitness said the street was suddenly flooded with red lights from the police cars.

"They did a great job," said Friedman of the police officers, who added that an incident such as this has never happened in his store before.

First Precinct Detectives withheld the name of the subject because he is part of an ongoing investigation into illegal drug activity. He was charged with two counts of criminal sale of a controlled substance and resisting arrest.
