Heard It On The Grapevine
By Frick and Frack

Shown in the photo, are Dorothy ("Mac") Beyers and Nancy Swan are with long-stemmed roses presented to them for their work and commitment to the "Busy Women" when they served as presidents of the organization.
A GREAT TURNOUT AT "BUSY WOMEN" MEETING. The Babylon Business and Professional Women's Association held its first meeting of the year at "The Hook" Restaurant on Fire Island Avenue this past Thursday. It was a great turnout of members and a complete success in good fellowship and learning. There were five past presidents who participated in posing for photos until the camera ran out of film. They were Jane Warren, Dorothy Beyers, Nancy Swan, Anita North and Nancy Newton and Dorothy Beyers and Nancy Swan were presented with a long-stemmed rose and an honorary membership. This honor is shared at present with Jane Warren and Marge Voorhies and is given to those who have long labored to keep the BB&PW Association alive and "busy" as they are often called. An interesting and enlightening talk on the work of the County District court was given by Judge Madeline Fitzgibbons. As usual, a lively discussion period followed. The "Busy Women" are a good group to lecture - their questions are so many and useful information is the result. We wish them luck in the next meeting of the Babylon Tree Lighting Ceremony on December 3. They want everyone in Babylon to mark their calendar and join them at this festive occasion.

HATS OFF TO MAHAMED AND THE CHEFS AT THE PARKWOOD. They prepared a gourmet meal for "the ladies" to enjoy at the home of Isabel Gallagher last week. Everyone raved about the delicious food and the ambiance.

A HAPPY REUNION WITH FORMER SHIP MATES. Gene Turner, former Naval Lieutenant and Elizabeth Karoly had a great time when they flew down to Forfolk, Virginia to spend several days with Gene's former ship mates who served aboard the U.S.S. Harry Lee, an amphibious attack transport ship during World War II.

SOME ENCHANTED EVENING: This was the recent Good Sam Ball this year at the beautiful Bourne Mansion in Oakdale. A warm and wonderful cocktail party, with a marvelous multitude of hors d'oeuvres was followed by the fabulous Grucci fireworks display at dusk. Under a humomgous tent, dinner by Lessings and dancing were enjoyed by 800 people. This year's Ball chairpersons were Drs. Ronald and Catherine Caronia, Drs. Barry and Karen Goldberg, Sergeant Thomas and Ms. Rosemarie Duignan and Detective Jeffrey and Mrs. Denise Hanscom. The Samaritan award this year was presented to Mr. and Mrs. John H. Hallerson III for all their philanthropic work for the hospital over the years. Dalia Monge, wife of radiology's Joseph Monge, contributed to the evening with a display of her wonderful art work. Some of the doctor couples seen dancing were Drs. Barry and Karen Goldberg, Dr. Michael and Ilene Gerwitz, Drs. Ronald and Caterhine Caronia, Drs. Jeffrey and Jacqueline Spencer Hamilton, Drs. James and Anne Green and Drs. William and Jean Msiorino, Jr. and of course Dr. and Mrs. Ray Haag danced up a storm. Everyone looked lovely, especially Illene Gerwitz, Adelle Spencer, Regina Bove, Debbie Van Gourgondien and Guild President Terry Webber. A lovely Viennese hour, with a milk chocolate fountain ended the evening. All this was produced by pretty, petite Pat Mahon and her dedicated coworkers.

"WELCOME," WELCOME TO

OUR TOWN" to Suffolk County Democratic Leader Rich Schaffer. Rich has moved into his newly decorated Village Line road home and we hear on the grapevine that it's a gem. It should be - "Tricia" Snover was the decorator and this is a gal who really knows her stuff. Rich belongs here in Babylon Town. He started his political career as our Suffolk County Legislator and then went on to become Babylon Town Supervisor, before assuming his present past as the Suffolk County Democratic Leader. He's working hard these days to elect the Democratic candidates on November 7. And we hear that he's on the short list for an even higher spot in New York State. We'll keep you posted.

WE WILL MISS HIM. "He was such a gentleman" is the perfect description of my friend John Walbridge who passed away on Saturday, October 21. John loved the village and lived here most of his long life. We served on the Village Planning Board together during a period of increased growth in the business and residential areas, and his concern and knowledge were evident at every long meeting when we made so many decisions on projects affecting the orderly expansion of the community he loved.

Don't Forget. Next Tuesday is Election Day. Get out and vote - your vote matters.
