Public Commentary Dear Editor: Attention Babylon residents, our physical health and well-being may be severely compromised if the current proposal to build an incinerator at the Bergen Point Treatment Plant is approved. Many of the sewage systems operating in Suffolk would be dumping their resultant sludge at the Babylon Plant. The diluted sludge currently going into the ground here and in other states would be spewed into the air. Several years ago, when the same plant operated an incinerator the emissions were so putrid that for many miles the wind carried not only the odor, but caused an allergic reaction to many local residents. Nassau gets rid of their own sludge with an advanced system and do not send to other states as we in Suffolk do. Can't Suffolk do better than burn?
