West Islip senior selected to represent NYS Science Congress
2006-10-12 / Schools/Sports
Lauren Olsen, a senior in the West Islip Research Program was selected to represent Long Island at the New York State Science Congress. Olsen had presented her research at the Long Island Science Congress where she received the second highest score for Suffolk County participants. In all, only 12 students out of nearly 1,500 participants were selected from Long Island to attend the State Fair. Olsen took third place winning the Honors with Distinction award for her research on the parma leutical effect on the heart rate and mortality of the shrimp. This is an important finding since an increasing amount of pharmaceutical wastes are finding their way into marine estuaries. The event was held at SUNY Old Westbury.
