Legislator Steve Stern throws first pitch at Long Island Ducks game
Suffolk County Legislator Steve Stern (D-Huntington) 16th LD, recently received the honor of throwing out the first pitch at a Long Island
Ducks game, with the hometown Ducks taking on the three time Atlantic league champions the Somerset Patriots at Citibank Park
in Central Islip.
The Long Island Ducks were the 2004 Atlantic League champions and are currently in their seventh season. The organization is Long Island's first professional baseball team. They have successfully averaged 100 percent attendance capacity of their 22 million dollar facility, which seats 6,002 fans. The Long Island Ducks are considered one of the most successful minor league sports franchises in the country.
"What a thrill to throw out the first pitch in front of over 6,000 fans, said Stern. As an avid baseball fan and a Ducks fan from the beginning, I am most grateful to the Ducks organization for this exciting opportunity. Best yet, I threw it for a strike."
