Michael Gilbert, whose family he said enjoyed life and all it had to offer, died September 23, 2006 at New York Hospital in Flushing. He was 43 and had been born in Bay Shore.

Born to Jesse James and Irene (Tharpe) on March 18, 1963, he graduated from eastern Suffolk BOCES and later volunteered in the National Guard. After his return, he became a food service worker for Stony Brook Hospital.

According to his family, he was a beloved son, father, brother and friend to all who loved to entertain. He also had a way, mechanically, and could fix pretty much anything from cars to stereos.

Mr. Gilbert leaves behind his children: Malik, Elexus and Nigel and their mother Vivian McLean; his parents, Jesse and Irene; his siblings: Jerald, Sherrie, Karen, Chris. Carmine and David; his long-term companion: Ms. Regina Johnson; as well as a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other loved ones.

A prayer service was held at the Powell Funeral Home, Amityville, on September 28, 2006. Elder Greg Howard officiated at the funeral service on September 29, 2006 followed by interment in Pinelawn Memorial Park.
