Heard It On The Grapevine
A BABYLON YACHT CLUB TRADITION. The 14th annual Louis H. Orr Memorial Trophy race was held on October 1 on a perfect day for sailing. Lou Orr loved sailing and excelled in the sport all of his life, and after his death, his fellow sailors donated a trophy in his honor. Sailors from the Babylon Yacht Club and the Great South Bay Cruising club participated, and this year's winner in the spinnaker class was Aileen Eppig with Bob Grover as her crew. Paul Rendich finished second in the race. Jerry Dunnell was number one in the non- spinnaker class. Following the race, the Club hosted a reception in the Commodore's Room where Libby Orr presented trophies to the winners and refreshments were served.
UWE PAULSEN IS BACK. The members of the "Sewer Society" were happy to welcome Uwe Paulsen back to his place at their breakfast table last Wednesday. Uwe underwent successful knee surgery in New York City and is recovering nicely at his West Islip home. Everyone knows Uwe, the former host and owner of La Grange for many years.
LOOKS OFFICIAL BUT IT'S NOT.A friend received what appears to be a notice from the Babylon Village Zoning Board of appeals. The document is printed on pink paper stating: "This legal notice is being sent to homeowners that are within 100 feet of the following applications." It then lists the various applications to be considered at the Zoning Board meeting on Wednesday, October 18, with special emphasis on an application for variances on a planned residence on Graham Place. We don't know who is sending the material, but we'll check it out and let our readers know more when we know more. P.S. the heading states: "Beware - Queens comes to Long Island."
IT WAS A PERFECT DAY last week at the "Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum" in Savannah, Georgia as the Kassel Mission Historical Society held a memorial service and dedication of a bench in memory of the lost airmen from the 445th bomber group. "Jug" Warren of Babylon Village was among the 10 group members able to attend the services.

Then to wash it all down, delicious bloody Marys and mimosas. Kudos to all the chefs.
