Truck Route needs some regular attention
Editorial
Someone dumped a mattress along Truck Route in Lindenhurst/West Babylon again, and again the garbage lays there for weeks without being picked up by the Lindenhurst Highway Department. Last year at this time, another mattress was dumped and stayed there through the winter months. It endured the rain, snow and ice and was tossed from one side of the street to the other before someone eventually threw it into the wooded area on the west side of the road. The only clean portion of the street is the area near the auto junk yard at Truck Route and John Street which is swept and cleared every day. This forgotten strip of roadway between Niagara Avenue and East John Street has become hazardous for drivers, particulary in the dark, because many of the items dumped there are difficult to see at night. It has to be monitored more closely by the Town and the Village of Lindenhurst to ensure it is kept clear and safe. And, the slobs who continuously throw their garbage there should be sought out and ticketed. Let's remove the latest mattress before the snow flies, please. |
