Michael Greene Memorial Coaches Challenge held
Babylon Village's Little League coaches beat Babylon Village LaCrosse coaches 14 to 3 in the Michael Greene Memorial Coaches Challenge held Saturday, September 9, 2006 at the elementary school baseball field. The softball game was played in memory of Michael J. Greene, a Babylon Village resident and West Babylon firefighter, who was killed the past June while on duty. The event also raised funds for the Michael J. Greene Memorial Fund.
"Close to 600 people attended the event," said Kevin Going, one of the organizers. "It was an unbelieveable success. A celebration of Mike's life."
Shortly after Greene's tragic death, neighbors and friends of the Greene family started to plan an event in Greene's honor. The game turned into what Going called "the biggest block party ever, with food, games for the kids, and a DJ."
Organizers hope to make this an annual event. Those who wish to make a donation to the Memorial Fund should contact Marianne Connelly at 422-5859.
