Suffolk County Police First Precinct Patrol and Crime Section Officers interrupted an illegal speed contest gathering, which included numerous vehicles of different makes and models. The spectators and contestants appeared to be a loosely organized group that would get together to race each other and observe others race illegally.

The incident occurred at Central Avenue between New Highway and Wellwood Avenue on Saturday, September 23, 11:50 p.m.

The investigation resulted in the arrest of the following suspects: Steven Rocco, age 19, of 61 Nassau Street, Islip Terrace; Gregory Frankevicz, age 18, of 835 Bay Shore Ave., West Islip; Joseph Donofrio, age 18, of 99 Marie Street, Lindenhurst.

All three subjects were charged with Illegal Speed Contest and their vehicles were impounded to the Suffolk County Police Impound Yard in Westhampton.They were arraigned in First District Court, Central Islip.
