Fifth grade Deer Park student wins poster contest

Samantha Mendez, a fifth grade student in Mrs. Finley's class at the John F. Kennedy Intermediate School in the Deer Park Union Free School District was recently selected a winner in the Silence Breeds Violence...Speak Up And Tell Someone Children's Poster Display contest. The contest, sponsored by the Suffolk County Executive Family Violence Task Force, the Suffolk County Advisory Committee for Child Protection, and SCOPE Education Services in recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month held throughout April, generated more than three hundred submissions from students throughout Suffolk County illus

trating the slogan Silence Breeds Violence...Speak Up and Tell Someone. Samantha was presented with a framed copy of her poster and personally congratulated by Associate Director of SCOPE Education Services Cindy Pierce Lee at a special ceremony in her classroom.
