Dear Editor:

My conscience compels me to write regarding the July 5 editorial, the "New York Times Was Wrong." I don't think so because it is necessary to view historical decisions within the context of conditions that exist (existed) at the time. The current Bush administration and do-nothing Congress have seriously degraded our rights. If we are going to be "like them," we are no better.
