It was the people who battled the incinerator

2006-07-27 / Opinion

Dear Editor:

In response to William Hill's two letters to the editor, I would like him to know the facts about Bergen Point. The fact is no one in the Town of Babylon office brought the proposed incinerators at Bergen Point to the public's attention. Not one official rose to the occasion to stop the insanity until after the "concerned citizens" of the community took action. The officials came on board to point fingers at County Executive Steve Levy and to save their own necks. The fact is, we the people discovered

County Executive Steve Levy's plan, we made the flyers and we worked like hell to get our voices heard. The fact is the surrounding middle class families did whatever we could to protect ourselves from toxic emissions and to get our message out; no incinerators privately owned or county owned, ever.

So please stop spinning the truth with your opinions and stick to the facts.

Karen Watt, Babylon
