Patricia J. Mack, was a longtime Babylon Village resident who loved and worked for her community. She was a charter member of the Babylon Beautification Society and a longtime member of the Babylon Village Architectural Review Board. She was also a member of the Babylon Historical Society.

"She was my very dear friend for more than 20 years. We spoke on the phone almost everyday," said Isabel Gallagher, founder of the Beautification Society and close friend of Mrs. Mack. "She will be greatly missed."

Patricia Jeanne Bromley Mack died June 21, 2006 at Good Samaritan Hospital of heart failure. She was 83 years old.

Born May 14, 1923 in Chicago to Harold and Mary (Bradford), she grew up in Freeport. In 1969 she moved to South Carll Avenue in Babylon Village where she lived for 37 years. For the last several years, she lived on Paumanake Avenue.

"She loved Babylon Village and was involved in the community in so many ways," said her son, Ferris, who said she was also involved in the Southside Hospital Auxiliary Guild and a longtime member of the Babylon Yacht Club.

Professionally, she worked as an elementary teacher for many years in Freeport, as well as a substitute teacher in Babylon where many of her former students still remember her. According to her family she gained media attention in the 1940s by performing as the first f e m a l e drum majorette in the then allmale Columbia University band, which almost caused her to be expelled from Barnard College, from which she later graduated.

Mrs. Mack leaves behind her children: Russell of Michigan, Ferris of New York City and Bruce of Charlotte, North Carolina as well as their spouses Dale and Susan; her eight grandchildren; and four nieces and nephews as well as other loved ones and friends. She was predeceased in 1994 by her husband of 47 years, Ferris C.; her brother, Richard Bromley; and her parents, Harold and Mary Bromley.

Private funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Frederick J. Chapey & Sons Funeral Home, 1225 Montauk Highway, West Islip.

Donations in Mrs. Mack's name can be sent to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018.
