St. William the Abbot students excel in writing

2006-03-02 / Schools/Sports

Students at St. William the Abbot School in Seaford are celebrating their success in creative writing! Over thirty 7th grade student essays and eighteen 8th grade student poems have been selected for publication in Celebrating What Is Important to Me, an anthology published by Creative Communication, Inc.

The school was awarded the “Writing Achievement Award” by the organization based on the “exceptionally high merit” of the students’ entries. This award is an honor, which is given to the top 10% of all schools entering this nationwide contest. Creative Writing, Inc. Editor, Thomas K. Worthen, Ph.D. congratulated the school in a letter stating “The fact that you have numerous students accepted makes a strong statement about your school. Less than 50% of the essays submitted are selected for publication. The list of students that have been accepted to be published represents a lot of talent, hard work and dedication from your teachers and students. In judging thousands of essays, our judges have found that the single most important factor in creating a quality essay is the quality of the instruction.”

Congratulations to teachers Angela Ciaramella, Fran Warga, Joyce Sackman and Linda Pitre for their hard work and commitment to their students, and to the students themselves for their talent and achievement!
