by Tiffany Elliott

Richard Going, a 12-year dedicated New York City Police Officer based in Central Park, died tragically in an accident December 16, 2005. He would have been 40-years old on January 10th.

Richard P. Going, Jr. was a lifetime resident of West Islip who spent many of those years with his family on Pease Lane. He also ran a part time roofing business, Fleer Contracting, out of his home for the last 20 years according to his wife, Diane.

“My brother and I both played sports...and we always got along (growing up),” said his older brother, Bob. “He would do anything for anyone. The guys that worked for him at his roofing business were heartbroken when this happened because he was such a wonderful boss.”

In his spare time, he was an avid football player who travelled worldwide with the New York City Police Department league and a local flag football league.

There will be a fundraising dinner at Tavern of the Green in Manhattan at 7 p.m., April 6, 2005 and a football game in his memory at 1 p.m. on April 8 at Erasmus at Avenue N in Brooklyn, with all proceeds going to his immediate family he leaves behind.

A loving father and husband, Mr. Going leaves behind his wife of nine years, Diane and his children: Olivia and Ricky P. III; his siblings: Debbie Connors and her husband Tim of Syracuse and Bob and his wife Terry of Islip; his in-laws, John and Gillian Begg; his nieces and nephews: R.J., Timmy, Sean Paton, Lila Paton and Jackie Begg. He was predeceased by his parents: Richard P. and Renee.

Mr. Going reposed at the Frederick J. Chapey & Sons Funeral Home, 1225 Montauk Highway, West Islip. A Celebration of the Liturgy of Christian Burial was held December 20, 2005 at Our Lady of Lourdes R.C. Church, West Islip followed by interment in St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale.
