After returning from a tour in Iraq, Sgt. Maverick Sciarrino was greeted by West Babylon’s Forest Avenue Elementary School students who showed their support for his dedication. The children of Forest Avenue held a surprise welcome back celebration for the army reservist who was pen-pals with them while he served over a year in Iraq. Students sang patriotic songs and read poems which they wrote themselves to the sergeant. Town Supervisor Steve Bellone also issued a special proclamation at the celebration, which was attended by West Babylon School District Superintendent Mel Noble.
