West Islip High School’s top athletes were honored recently during a public meeting of the Board of Education. Recognition and certificates were presented to: Caitlin Keane and Caitlyn McElroy, All-County Gymnastics, Scholar-Athlete Team Award; Jessica Simonetti, All-County Soccer, Scholar Athlete Team Award; Ben Arikian, Mike Porcelli, Joe Caccavale and Jaren Fernan, All-County Soccer, and Ed Pieron, League III Soccer Coach of the Year, League III Champions and County Finalist; John Badolato, Justin Ellison, All-County Cross Country, and Chris Kaigh, Division II and League III Cross Country Coach of the Year, Scholar-Athlete Team Award, Division II Champions, Co-League III Champions and Team Champions at PAL Invitational & Eastern States Championships; Brian Caufield, AllCounty Volleyball; Carolyn Hodukavich, All-County Academic and Danielle Hodgson, League Defensive Volleyball Player of the Year; Kristen Alotta, All-County and AllState Tennis, Scholar Athlete Team Award, First Place in League and Division II and Sixth Place in Suffolk County; Krista Bergquist, All-County Swimming, Scholar Athlete Team Award, Second Place in League II Championships; Kevin Federico, Christian Scuderi, Peter Mezzanotte, Sal Barcia and Tim Denninger, AllCounty Football and Tim Horan, Football Coach of the Year, Scholar-Athlete Team Award, Big Four Champions and Suffolk County Finalist; Karen Federico and Justine Bennardo, All-County Field Hockey, Scholar-Athlete Team Award.
