Lindenhurst Student Council host senior citizens' luncheon

In the spirit of doing something good for the community, members of the Lindenhurst High School’s Student Council hosted a luncheon for the senior citizens of Lindenhurst. The annual event provides a time for the seniors to travel to the High School and enjoy a meal prepared and served by students. During the luncheon, the senior citizens were treated to music performed by the high school chorus and select orchestra. They dined on a meal prepared by students in Judy DeLucca’s culinary arts program, and enjoyed conversation with fellow seniors and students.

For the occasion, students in the high school’s architecture program constructed a gingerbread model of mid-town Manhattan, complete with Rockefeller Center, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, and the Empire State Building. Constructed to scale, the project took the students approximately two months to complete.

Ben Urso, a student council member and head of the luncheon committee, stated, “I have a lot of fun doing this luncheon; it’s fun to help people out.” Senior citizen Katherine Behrens added, “The students are very gracious to invite us; it’s something we look forward to every year. It shows us how respectful the students are to us.”
