For the third year in a row, students at Lindenhurst’s E.W. Bower Elementary School traveled to the Rainbow Center to spread a little holiday cheer to the senior citizens of Lindenhurst. The fourth and fifth-grade children, all members of Bower’s student government, helped the seniors construct a variety of crafts, including a bookmark and photo frame. Students and seniors also talked about their families, plans for the holidays, and hobbies. They shared lunch with one another, and some even showed off pictures of family and friends.

According to E.W. Bower teacher and student government advisor Melissa Hartley, “This activity is a nice way of bridging the gap between generations. It brings the Lindenhurst community together.” Rainbow Center member Rose Simenson who is active in Bingo and crochet, said, “I like to talk to the children; they are very interesting to talk to.”

Shown in the photo is E.W. Bower student Natalie Puentes enjoying a conversation with senior citizen Frances Ferrito.
