James “Jay Jay” Collins, a lifelong Amityville resident was active in his church and an avid sportsman. In addtion to playing football and baseball, he was a volunteer with the Amity Memorial High School team.

James J. Collins died November 19, 2005. He was 56 years old.

Born in Amityville to Marian O. Collins and Vincent Martialto, he later worked at the Dariene Coffee Company in North Babylon. For a short time he also worked for the Fairchild Republic Manufacturing plant in Farmingdale and for the Town of Babylon as a highway worker.

He was deeply involved in his church, the Holy Trinity Baptist Church, in which he was an usher and founder of the Amity chapter of the 12-step Fellowship Program.

In his spare time he was a Giants and Knicks fan who also loved to cook and spend time with friends and family.

Mr. Collins leaves behind his former wife of 15 years, Joyce; his step-sons: Damon Dudley and his wife Felicia of Amityville and Gerald McClary and his wife Wendy of Amityville; his grandchildren: Nadia, Taylor, Skye, Jaylen, Gerald Jr.; his nieces and nephews: Chloe, Brittany and David; his Godson, Valentin David, Jr. and a host of other relatives and friends. His parents, Marian and Vincent Martialto and stepfather, William E., predeacsed him.

Mr. Collins reposed at the Holy Trinity Baptist Church under the arrangement of the Powell FuneralHome. The Reverend Dr . Spurgeon E. Crayton led a mass at Holy Trinity on November 25, 2005, followed by private interment on November 26, 2005.
