Babylon schools honor Beatrice White Smith
Beatrice White Smith Beatrice White Smith, who recently turned 103-yearsyoung and wanted to be part of the Babylon School District's Bicentennial of Education in Babylon Village (1805-2005), celebrated her birthday at the Babylon Elementary School recently. Hosted by the second graders, the celebration featured a school lunch, birthday cake with candles, balloons, songs by the school chorus, and a congratulatory letter from President and Mrs. George W. Bush. Mrs. Smith's family and friends were in attendance, as were members of the Babylon Village Historical Society and the Board of Education, Suffolk County Legislator Wayne Horsley, Village Historian Alice Zaruka, and school administrators. Mrs. Smith is the school district's oldest living graduate and the most treasured. While a student, she was president of the winning Spelling Team and was a member of the Basketball Team. She continues to reside in the village.
