2006-01-05 / Schools/Sports
New York State Legislative Grant from Senator Owen Johnson is providing CAPS (Child Abuse Prevention Services) lessons to West Islip children titled "Steer Clear of Bullies." As a program that is part of the school district’s effort to prevent bullying, CAPS is designed to promote empathy and teach strategies for dealing with overly aggressive and hurtful children. CAPS is a non-profit organization underwritten by private donations, grants and legislative appropriations. The Senator visited Linda Louden’s fourth grade class at the Bellew Elementary School to see how the lessons were going and to view the students’ response.
