Mortality statistics of previous wars
Dear Editor:
I recall Chris Sheehan’s mother standing at the edge of President Bush’s ranch in Crawford, Texas asking for a face-to-face with him, even though she had already spoken to him privately, but then preferred a more public scenario, hoping to drag him down with the help of her supporters.
I wonder if her mother, grandmother or great-grandmother would have made such a public display say for the Korean War while President Truman (D) lost 11,209 yearly in a three year war or President Kennedy (D) with the Vietnam War where 4,732 were lost yearly for 10 years. Perhaps her grandmother could have confronted President Roosevelt (D) where 58,426 were lost yearly in WWII, a five-year war. Or, maybe her great-grandmother could have insisted on seeing President Wilson (D), as we lost a lot of servicemen in WWI.
Some of us have heard, Mrs. Sheehan was being financed by Arabs. Her actions are deemed upsetting to our troops in Iraq, and we know the Arabs would be happy to have the morale of our soldiers shattered. If this report of Arab money funding her is true, I would hope she would be tried for treason, and face a firing squad.
I am also tired of hearing nightly how many troops were lost that day. Remember they are all volunteers and we must keep their morale high. I have lived through many wars and this is just Bush bashing.
