•On display at the library are carvings by local Richard Milligan as well as paintings from Long Island artist Carlos Rios.

•A free blood pressure check will be held the first Monday of each month from 10 a.m. to noon.

•Achieving Optimal Health thru Natural Medicine: 7-8:30 p.m., Monday, December 19. Dr. James Prego will discuss how to optimize your health with water intake, sleep habits, etc.

•Art Buddies: 7-8 p.m., Wednesday, December 21 for 5-8 year-olds. Teen buddies will help kids create a gingerbread house!

•Friendly Spanish conversation is held every Friday, 10 a.m. to noon. All are welcome to join this informal class. Refreshments will be served.

•Friendly English conversation is held every Tuesday, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and every Thursday morning, 10 a.m. to noon. All are welcome to join this informal class. Refreshments will be served.

•Toys of Yesteryear are on display every day from 1-5 p.m. Create an old-time craft and play with our toys.

•Local Artist Cristhian Gallego will display his paintings & murals all month.

•Drop off toys now for Toys For Tots in cooperation with the Marine Corps.

•Defensive Driving Course: Saturday, December 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. $25 pp, payable check, cash or money order to Empire Safety Council. Register in advance. Bring valid license to class.

•Young adults in grades six + may earn one hour of community service credit by writing up reviews recommending books, music, movies and computer games to their peers. Forms for submitting written reviews, with further instructions, are in the young adult area of the library.

•Family bus trip to the Museum of Natural History, Wednesday, December 28. The bus departs 9:30 a.m. The museum is having a special dinosaur exhibit. The fee is $44 per person for adults and $33 for children under 12 years of age and includes round trip bus transportation, general admission to the museum and the dinosaur exhibit. Bring your own lunch or eat in the cafeteria. Registration is underway.

•Register now to see "Mama Mia" on Broadway, Sunday March 19. Bus leaves from library at 1 p.m., after matinee eat at Nonna’s, arrive home at 8:30 p.m., $127 pp includes bus, seat and diner.

•The library will continue to present the Friday Afternoon at the Movies programs, 1 p.m. Call the library for details.

•The bridge players group will meet each Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The group is for experienced players only. No lessons are given during this time.

•Winter Warmth Holiday Tree: Please donate new or hand-made scarves, hats, gloves, mittens, socks, sweaters, etc. to be donated to local charities. Please bring items to Children’s Room before Saturday, December 17.

•Quilting Block of the Month Club: 10 a.m.-noon, Saturday, December 17. New members always welcome!

•Knitting Club: 7-9 p.m., Monday, December 19. All levels welcome. Register in advance.

•Board of Trustees meeting: 3 p.m., Wednesday December 21.

•Lights on Literature Program: 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, December 21. Discussion will be about "One for the Money," by Janet Evanovich.
